Nina is a working-class single mother who is devoted to her only child, Ezrah. She is a hands-on parent and her whole world revolves around her son. She has a challenging relationship with his father Mark, who she split with when Ezrah was only six weeks old. Mark is a wealthy businessman and single-mindedly sets out to get what he wants, when he wants it. Nina is on a high, looking forward to seeing her son after he’s been on summer holidays with his father, she has felt lost without him and missed spending time together. She prepares for his homecoming excitedly and goes to collect him with a spring in her step. Upon seeing Ezrah, she is faced with a son she barely recognises. Gone is the happy, sweet boy she knows. His reaction hits like a bullet and her world slowly starts to disintegrate around her. She looks to his father for answers, but his malevolent response unnerves her. As Nina is left alone whilst her son leaves with his father, she falls apart. Nina eventually returns home and tries to come to terms with what has just happened, she even questions herself but gets no answers. The house is an empty grey shell, it’s not home without her son. She feels sick to the stomach but knows that she must try to find a way to the truth and turns to the internet for clues.
